What are some signs of a concussion?

A slip and fall or car accident may leave you feeling disconnected and tired afterward, as though your mind is in a fog.

These are common symptoms of a concussion, which is a serious medical issue. Knowing the signs of this problem can help you determine when to seek medical help.

Physical signs

According to the Mayo Clinic, many people feel nauseous or have blurry vision at some point after getting a concussion. Physical symptoms may not arise directly after the accident or fall. Sometimes, the rush of adrenaline from the fear can mask these problems until a few days later.

Being cautious and noticing if you feel drowsy or notice ringing in your ears can also help. It may even be tough to fall asleep if the issue worsens. More severe problems include weak limbs, seizures and extreme headaches. Losing your sense of taste or smell also happens in some circumstances.

Mental signs

Although a concussion has physical symptoms, you also experience a drastic change in your mental health as well. Bouts of confusion and problems with your memory, such as forgetting basic facts and conversations you recently had, can leave you feeling lost and nervous.

Others may notice these signs before you do. If you hear someone comment on your slurred speech or inability to respond quickly to questions, it may signal you have complications from an accident. Increased forgetfulness can also make you feel stressed since it can interfere with every aspect of your life. Concussions are a serious medical issue and can lead to worse health problems if left untreated.
