Many people on the road tend to forget that the rules of the road are not just in place for people driving on it, but also for those walking or biking on it or across it. The highest priority is always safety and just because someone is not inside a motor vehicle does not mean they do not have the right to use the road safely and without worry of being struck by passing motorists.
One Lower Macungie man was, unfortunately, a victim of such an incident recently. The 65-year-old man was walking on the 4400 block of South Cedarbrook Road when he was struck by a vehicle around 6:30 in the morning.
He was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead about an hour after he was struck. The coroner said the man died of multiple blunt force trauma and the death was ultimately ruled as an accident.
Still, the crash remained under investigation and an autopsy was scheduled to determine an exact cause of death.
It is rare that a motor vehicle accident is truly just that — an accident. While it may be more difficult to spot a pedestrian on the road while driving, that does not change the fact that motorists on the road need to be aware of their surroundings while driving.
These types of actions are dangerous to others on the road — in a car or otherwise — and can result in serious injury or, as was the case with the recent accident mentioned earlier, death.
The good news is there are personal injury lawyers dedicated to clients who have been injured in motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents due to a negligent driver. The lawyers at the law offices of McHugh and Imbornone work hard to hold responsible parties accountable for the injuries you or a loved one may have suffered.
